Among the many unique weapons available in Path of Exile, Ichimonji Corsair Sword occupies an unusual position. It is not simply a weapon designed to maximize raw physical damage. Instead, it combines solid offensive stats with mechanics that reward characters focused on self-buffs and efficient skill reservation. Because gear upgrades can consume valuable Path of exile currency, understanding Ichimonji's strengths and weaknesses can help players make better decisions when building a physical attack character.

The first major advantage is its attack-oriented profile. Ichimonji requires level 58 and provides 40% increased Global Accuracy Rating through its Corsair Sword base. Accuracy is often overlooked when players compare weapons, but reliable attacks are essential for many melee and ranged attack skills. Missing attacks reduces real-world damage, so additional accuracy can make gameplay feel more consistent.

The weapon also has 80–95% increased Physical Damage and adds 5–10 to 13–20 Physical Damage. These modifiers give it a respectable physical damage foundation. Its 20–25% increased Attack Speed is another major attraction. Faster attacks can improve clearing speed, smooth combat animations, and increase the frequency of effects triggered by attacks.

Where Ichimonji becomes different from an ordinary physical sword is its buff-focused design. The weapon grants 10% increased Effect of Buffs on You. This modifier encourages players to build around effects that strengthen their character rather than depending exclusively on weapon damage. When a build already has valuable self-applied buffs, improving their effectiveness can increase the usefulness of the entire character.

The second utility modifier is 10% increased Mana Reservation Efficiency of Skills. Reservation management can be one of the most frustrating parts of character planning, especially when several auras or other reservation skills compete for limited resources. Ichimonji can provide additional room for these skills without requiring another item slot dedicated specifically to reservation efficiency.

There is also a major trade-off. Ichimonji prevents allied Aura Buffs from affecting you, and your Aura Buffs do not affect allies. In solo play, this drawback may be relatively easy to accept. In a party, however, it can become a serious limitation. A character that depends on receiving aura bonuses from another player may lose much of the value provided by its group setup.

This distinction makes Ichimonji more appealing to independent characters. Solo mapping builds can take advantage of self-buffs and reservation efficiency while avoiding the need to coordinate around party auras. Players who prefer creating their own buffs and maintaining their own defensive or offensive setup may find the sword particularly comfortable.

Ichimonji is also worth considering when leveling or transitioning between builds. It can provide a combination of speed and physical damage without demanding the same type of specialized crafting process associated with high-end rare weapons. Players can use it as a temporary solution while saving resources for a more specialized endgame weapon.

That does not mean Ichimonji is automatically the best choice. High-end builds often depend on precise combinations of weapon damage, critical modifiers, attack speed, elemental conversion, or other specialized effects. A well-crafted rare sword may eventually outperform Ichimonji by a considerable margin.

The best approach is to treat Ichimonji as a specialized unique rather than a universal weapon. It works best when its buff and reservation mechanics match your character's strategy. If those mechanics fit your build, spending POE divine orbs on supporting equipment instead of immediately replacing the sword may create a more efficient upgrade path.
