The Butterfly is a Mythical pet in Roblox Grow A Garden, added during the Friendship Update on June 7th, 2025. Most players recognize it as a late-game utility pet rather than a general farming helper. It does not boost growth speed or yield directly. Instead, it focuses on upgrading high-mutation crops into Rainbow variants.
In general, players aim for the Butterfly once they already understand mutations, variants, and how fruit value scales. It is not very useful early on, but it becomes important once gardens are optimized around high-value crops.
What Tier Is the Butterfly?
The Butterfly is classified as Mythical, even though its hatch chance is only 1%.
Some players expect it to be Divine because of how rare it is, but the game officially places it in the Mythical tier. This is similar to how Mimic Octopus and Ankylosaurus are handled. In practice, tier matters less than what the pet actually does, and the Butterfly’s passive ability is what makes it valuable.
How Do You Get the Butterfly? Can You Still Obtain the Butterfly?
Yes, the Butterfly is still obtainable.
Most players get it from the Anti Bee Egg, which is crafted at the Cosmetics Shop. The crafting process takes 2 hours and requires:
  • 1 Bee Egg
  • 25 Honey

Bee Eggs are still sold by the Honey Merchant, so the limiting factor is usually Honey. In general, players need to plan ahead and stockpile Honey before attempting multiple Anti Bee Eggs.
The Butterfly also used to be available through the Premium Anti Bee Egg, which cost 149 Robux. That option may not always be available, depending on current shop rotations and updates.
Some players who do not want to grind Honey look for outside options like buy grow a garden pets paypal safe payment, but in normal gameplay, crafting Anti Bee Eggs is the intended method.
What Is the Hatch Chance?
The Butterfly has a 1% hatch chance from the Anti Bee Egg.
In practice, this means most players will need several eggs before getting one. It is common to hatch many other Anti Bee pets first. Because of this, players usually wait until they can afford multiple crafts rather than trying with only one egg.
What Does the Butterfly’s Passive Ability Do?How Does Rainbow Flutter Work?
The Butterfly’s passive ability is called Rainbow Flutter.
Every ~30 minutes, the Butterfly will:
  • Fly to a nearby fruit
  • Check if that fruit has 5 or more mutations
  • Remove all crop mutations from the fruit
  • Turn the fruit into a Rainbow variant

It ignores favorited fruit, so marking fruit as favorite is the main way to protect crops you do not want affected.
This ability works automatically and does not require player input once the Butterfly is placed.
Does It Remove Variants or Environmental Mutations?
This is where many players get confused.
  • Gold and Silver are Variants, not Environmental Mutations
  • The Butterfly requires 5 actual crop mutations, not variants

So if a fruit has:
  • 4 Environmental Mutations
  • 1 Variant

The Butterfly will not activate on that fruit.
In general, players need to deliberately stack enough real mutations before expecting the Butterfly to trigger.
Why Is Rainbow So Valuable?
Even though Rainbow has a listed 50x multiplier, it is widely considered the strongest mutation in the game.
This is because:
  • Rainbow acts as the base value of the fruit
  • All other mutations and variants multiply on top of Rainbow

So when a fruit becomes Rainbow, every existing modifier becomes dramatically more valuable. In practice, a Rainbow fruit with strong mutations is worth far more than most other combinations.
This is why most late-game gardens are built around generating Rainbow crops consistently.
How Often Does the Butterfly Activate?
The base cooldown is around 30 minutes, but it can be reduced based on the Butterfly’s weight.
The formula is:
t_cooldown = 30 minutes − 0.3 × (Weight − 0.5)
In general, heavier Butterflies activate slightly faster. Most players do not min-max this heavily, but weight can matter if you are trying to maximize Rainbow production over long sessions.
How Much Hunger Does the Butterfly Have?
The Butterfly has 26,000 hunger, which is quite high.
This means:
  • It can stay active for a long time
  • It does not need frequent feeding
  • It works well for idle or semi-idle play

Most players feed it once and then let it run while managing other parts of their garden.
What Does the Butterfly Look Like?
The Butterfly has a very clean, geometric design.
  • Long, narrow purple body
  • Slightly rounded head
  • Small, evenly spaced black legs
  • Large angular wings forming a wide “V” shape
  • Light purple wings with black rectangles near the center
  • Orange circular markings closer to the tips

The model is symmetrical and blocky, fitting well with Grow A Garden’s stylized look.
Does the Rainbow Effect Always Show Visually?
No, not always.
With many plants, the Butterfly will successfully apply the Rainbow mutation, but the plant may not visually change color. This is different from naturally generated Rainbow crops.
Most players believe this is a visual glitch. The value and mutation still apply correctly, even if the rainbow appearance does not show.
Is the Butterfly Worth Using?
In general, yes — but only in the right setup.
The Butterfly is best when:
  • You already produce fruits with many mutations
  • You understand how to protect favorite crops
  • You are focused on late-game value optimization

It is not very useful early on, and it does not help with basic growth or resource generation. Most players treat it as a specialized upgrade tool rather than a general pet.
How Does It Compare to Similar Pets?
The Butterfly is one of only five pets that can apply growth-variant mutations to plants:
  • Butterfly
  • Dragonfly
  • Golden Bee (unobtainable)
  • Cockatrice
  • Silver Dragonfly

Among these, the Butterfly is usually chosen for Rainbow generation specifically. Other pets may apply different effects, but Rainbow remains the most valuable outcome in most situations.
The Butterfly is a niche but powerful Mythical pet in Grow A Garden. It rewards players who already understand mutation stacking and long-term garden planning. Most players do not rush for it early, but once obtained, it becomes a core part of high-value farming strategies.
